There’s something magical about a lemonade stand – the bright yellows, the sweet smell, and the joy of serving up something made “all by yourself”. Why not bring the magic indoors with a lemonade stand sensory bin? It’s a perfect summer themed activity that combines pretend play, fine motor skills, and sensory exploration!
Why do we love it? Scoop, pour, and stir – builds fine motor skills. Pretend, shop and serve – encouraging social play. Talk about lemons – sweet vs. sour, colors and counting.
The base filler in my Lemonade Stand is colored rice and wheel pasta. I color all of my rice and pastas myself using non gel food coloring (I find when using gel food coloring, it transfers to little hands), and white vinegar. I simply put the rice or pasta in a ziplock bag along with a few drops of coloring along with 1-2 teaspoons of white vinegar. Close the bag and shake until full coverage. You can always add more dye depending of how vibrant you’d like. I then spread out on a cookie sheet and let dry completely overnight.
The rest of my items used are listed below the images. Anything not listed was purchased somewhere other than Amazon (Dollar Tree, Hobby Lobby, etc). I also reuse a lot of my sensory items on various themes.
