If you know Inside Out, you know that Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust aren’t just characters… they’re a whole lesson in what it means to be human. (Or, you know, a kid who really doesn’t want to eat broccoli.)
This month, we brought those feelings to life right at our sensory table, and wow – the kids dove in with everything they had.
We explored how feelings can look, feel, and even move differently. Bouncy ping pong balls racing through tracks for Joy. Squishy, slow-moving pom poms for something a little more like Sadness. Stretchy resistance bands, shimmering beads, and cool, satisfying water beads that had little hands exploring long after I thought we’d wrap up. Honestly? The water beads were the clear crowd favorite – I could barely get them to stop!
We paired it all with the book My First Emotions (seriously, a must-have – I’ll link it below!) to help the littles start putting words to what they feel. There is something so special about watching a two-year-old point to a picture and say “mad” or “happy” like they just discovered something important about themselves. Because they did.
๐ All feelings belong here. Every single one.
