This month, our sensory table was inspired by one of our favorite stories, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie! We brought the book to life with hands-on activities that let the children explore, create, count, sort, and pretend—all while following along with Mouse’s silly adventure.

Our sensory area includes Mouse’s Cookie Shop, where little bakers can make and serve their own pretend cookies. 🍪 The children can sort and count cookies, match numbers, practice simple sequencing, and use the colorful picture cards to retell parts of the story.

Of course, Mouse needs more than just a cookie! 🐭🥛 Throughout the sensory table, children will discover familiar objects and pictures from the book, encouraging them to remember what happens next and recreate the story through imaginative play.

While it may look like we’re simply playing with cookies and mice, there’s lots of learning mixed in! The children are practicing:

🍪 Counting and number recognition
🐭 Story recall and sequencing
🥛 Language and vocabulary
🍪 Sorting and matching
🐭 Fine-motor skills
🥛 Pretend play and social skills
🍪 Following directions and problem solving

One little cookie can lead to a whole lot of fun—and learning! ❤️

And chances are…if you give a preschooler a sensory bin, they’re going to want to play again and again! 🐭🍪

Items Used in This Sensory Table 🛒

Since most of the items used for this sensory bin were just laminated printable, it was pretty reasonable to put together. The fillers used are just dried great northern beans (white), dried split peas, plain oatmeal, and Pluffle filling – this is a must!
